Wexford Town

This painting was from my first night in Wexford, Ireland for the “Art in the Open” plein air painting festival. It is the end of the day, and I am trying to get a painting in before the light fades. It is what I assume to be a typical Irish day – wonderful grey light coating all the buildings and streets in a shiny glow. It is generally misty, and the rain is falling sporadically. I am tucked in the shelter of an apartment alcove, so I am able to mostly avoid the rain. This scene is one of my favourites, as I really enjoyed this grey street scene challenge. As I was painting this, I was sporadically visited by the pub goers from across the street, who would come over to see what I was doing in their smoke break from watching the soccer game.
