Plein air painting equipment
The equipment I use for painting outside.

Equipment

This is my equipment bag for painting. It contains a mid-sized pochade box, big enough to hold my standard panel of 11×14. My box is made by Sienna, and I quite like it, though it would be nice to have something a little lighter for carting around for longer distances. The box connects to a camera tripod, which is made by Vanguard. It is aluminum, lightweight and durable. It is important to get a sturdy tripod for the wind and weight, and also one that extends to about a 6′ height, as it isĀ  nice to paint at eye level. I have a bag of paints, paper towel and an empty plastic bag for waste. Sitting on the bag cover above, is a lightweight panel carrier, of which the manufacturer is Raymar. I have made my own panel carriers, but find this to be worth the extra cost. Lastly I have a canvas roll of brushes. All this fits conveniently in my carrier bag, which is a full zip around. When painting, the bag gets hung from the tripod which weighs it down against the wind. Overall, this setup works well for me. I would love to have something lighter for longer hikes, and would appreciate any feedback on options for this, or any other feedback you may have.

Thanks,

Stephen
